Annual Town Garage Sale

The Y&DTA hold a Town Garage Sale each year on the 3rd or 4th Saturday in October. The event is tremendously popular with more than 30 households participating along with Community Groups.  The Community Groups host stalls for the locals who don’t quite have enough stuff to justify a full blown garage sale or for those who wished to be closer to town.

So here’s the low down on how to be involved this year and what will be happening on the day –

The sale will be held October 23rd 2010.

There are three ways to be involved:

1) Anyone who lives in our local area can register their garage sale to be a part of this huge day. When you register (for a $25 fee) your address and home location will be added to a map which will be available to visitors on the day. One week before the sale you will need to pick up signage for your wheelie bin to help identify you as a participant in Yackandandah’s Town Garage Sale (to be used on the day).

The signage will need to be returned at the end of the sale day and if it is undamaged you will get a $10 refund! That means that after the refund it only costs you $15 to be a part of this great day!! Sale locations are limited to residents of the Yackandandah & District area.

2) If you live a bit too far out of town or only have a small amount of goodies to clear you can register to have a stall at the school grounds. Stalls will cost $10 to register. Stall sizes are limited to approx 2 metres or one trestle table. You will need to bring your own table unless you wish to have your stand at the school, in which case you can book a table on your registration form. There are limited stall sites, so be quick!! Stalls are limited to residents within Yackandandah and surrounding district.

3) If you are a trader in the
High St
, we encourage you to have tables out the front on the day with discontinued or clearance lines. Not only will this add to the atmosphere but it will encourage people to stop and browse around town while they are here. There is no charge for traders to set up their own stalls.

Well worth the money! The event will be advertised in the Border Mail and various other publications as well as being included on community notice boards. That means for a small fee your little garage sale is bound to attract a lot of people! You can also increase your exposure by decorating your gate, driveway, letterbox or fence.

On the day the Yackandandah Information Centre will be open from 7.45am for bargain hunters to come in and grab a map for a gold coin donation. The map will locate all the sales and tell them what type of goodies they are likely to find there. You can register by seeing a volunteer at the Yackandandah Visitor Information Centre, or download the registration form by using the 'downloads' tab on the main page.

Registrations, together with payment,  must be completed by October 14th 2010.     Ph: 02 60271988 for enquiries.

If we have insufficient registrations for the event to proceed all monies will be refunded.

SO COME ON - CLEAR OUT THAT OLD SHED, UNPACK THOSE DUSTY BOXES, REGISTER A SALE AND MAKE SOME MONEY!!

Advice for those wishing to participate: If you decide to hold a sale at your home please make sure you keep your house and areas you do not want the public to have access to locked up. If you have a nice garden that you do not want trampled, use some string to fence off the area. Make sure your sale is outside, visible and has easy access so people do not need to wander around your property. Close curtains to your home so would be thieves can’t easily see your valuables. Participants are also encouraged to check their home insurance covers public liability on their property.

Join the fun!!
