Latest Yackandandah News

New Cafe in town (May 29th 2007)

Yackandandah has a new cafe on the horizon! KG's Cafe Restaurant, located at Keebles Garden Centre will be receiving new owners and a new name on June 30th. The Cafe will be renamed Gum Tree Cafe Yackandandah and new owners Melinda and Sebastian Nedziak are very excited about their new venture. "We will be open 7 days and want to make sure we are a family friendly cafe and cater to large groups as well". While the cafe will be operating from July 1st the official opening will not take place until September 1st.

Rain! (May 2007)

Yackandandah has had some great rainfall in the last month with over 65mm falling from the heavens. This brings our year to date figure up to 249.5mm which is almost double compared to last year - still not close to our normal average but getting better. The green hills are a testament to that! The best news is that we WILL NOT be going to stage 4 water restrictions as planned for July 1st and there is a possibility that we may even see a reduction in the restriction level by this date. Currently Yackandandah is on Stage 3 water restrictions.

Saddle Up! (May 2007)

Yackandandah has two new businesses in town that are set to add to the charm and character of the town and offer visitors something special. Yackandandah Saddlery and Horse Gear has opened up at 2 High Street in Yackandandah and has definitely met a great need in the local market. Staying on our horse theme Yackandandah is also very happy to have Yackandandah Trail Rides now available for locals and visitors who want that unique country experience. The two businesses are very welcome additions to town and we are sure they will be very popular with everyone who visits.

Museum and Rainbow Crystal Fire

Yackandandah suffered from a sad fire on December 21st 2006 in which we lost the front building of our great museum and the old Riddington Store building, (which was the Rainbow Crystal giftshop and their attached home at the time of the fire). The community has rallied around and both buildings will be rebuilt, which is great news. Luckily most of the historical records were saved, so while this event has been a blow for our town, we will recover and bounce back.

The museum is still actively providing their research services while the museum is being rebuilt. For those interested in catching up with Bronwyn from Rainbow Crystal - come along to the Yackandandah Folk Festival on Sunday and see her at her street stall. She would love to see all her old customers again!
