Forest Drive
The best way to experience these breathtaking scenes is via The Forest Drive, where you can still see mine shafts and tunnels dotted through the trees.
To the northwest is the spectacular Beechworth Forest, resting on the foothills of the Victorian Alps.
Its tranquil beauty with eucalyptus and native cypress pine trees, winding creeks, steep gullies and rugged granite outcrops is unsurpassed.
To the south west is the Stanley State Forest, a beautifully preserved natural bush land hosting a variety of vegetation and diverse wildlife.
There are swamp wallabies, lizards, possums, gliders, echidnae, wombats, bandicoots, marsupial mice, rosellas, willy-wagtails, honeyeaters and many rare and endangered species of birds.
